The JR Hickman family has been adjusting to their new home, transforming it into a comfortable haven through ongoing projects like painting furniture and adding personalised touches. The children are overjoyed to have their own rooms.
Sawyer is diligently navigating Primary 2 and has blossomed into an avid reader, much to the delight of her parents. Her newfound interest in Harry Potter has rekindled the tradition of bedtime stories. She recently showcased her grace and talent in her first ballet recital, taking on the role of Red Crab #15 out of 30. Despite the humour, she performed wonderfully, making her parents incredibly proud.
Joey is evolving into quite the household's gentleman, exploring the limits of his independence and pushing boundaries. Once considered the mischievous one in daycare, he's now emerged as a star student. It's anticipated that he'll soon surpass Sawyer as an enthusiastic reader. The siblings have both become enamoured with the world of Pokémon, whether it's through TV shows, arcade games, or playing with cards. Debating the strengths of characters like Charizard and Mewtwo has become a daily affair. They've also been persistently attending swimming lessons, developing into strong swimmers, though finding warm pool days in Singapore remains an ongoing challenge.
Cui Mei remains dedicated to her role within the cruise team at the Singapore Tourism Board. The flourishing industry keeps her engaged, searching for the perfect cruises for future Hickman family vacations.
Now in his 2nd year at Singapore's premier members-only wine club, JR has delved into the fascinating realm of AI content creation. He often experiments with artistic expression by unexpectedly incorporating stormtroopers into ordinary scenes. It may even lead one to question the authorship of this family update. An intriguing thought, indeed!
After more than 20 years with Interval International, Joe became a full-time retiree on 01 January 2023. Since August 2022, Joe has gone on seven cruises around Asia, most recently on a ten-night cruise from Sydney, Australia, to a couple of ports around New Zealand and then back to Sydney, where he spent some time with good friends. Upcoming cruises include Alaska, a 24-night Singapore-Japan-Singapore trip and towards yearend he is doing Miami-Los Angeles via the Panama Canal followed by Thanksgiving in La Quinta with the family. Joe still enjoys working on the website, and spends way too much time on social media, he continues using his camera to capture memorable sights and happenings wherever life takes him.
Three and half decades ago Joe dragged his family halfway around the world to Malaysia on what was supposed to be a 2-year contract to open the Shangri-La Hotel in Kuala Lumpur... 2 years turned to 4, 4 to 8 to 16 years and so on. Asia has been home for more than three and a half decades. Malaysia, Philippines, Hong Kong &, for the past 25 years, Singapore. Joe, JR, Cui Mei, Sawyer and Joey still live in Singapore, while Alexis, Adam, Margot and Clark live in Fremont, California.
Joe purchased a second home in La Quinta, California. The home is in Rancho La Quinta Country Club, twenty miles east of Palm Springs, California. A great place, on a golf course, with incredible views of the Santa Rosa Mountains. It is great for holidays, and he is thinking it will eventually be a great place to reside. The only concern is that summers in the desert are now more humid than in Singapore!
The purpose of this website is to give you a glimpse at what's going on in their lives; important events, simple moments and times they simply laugh at themselves. Here they share their stories, photos, adventures and experiences when travelling the world.

Alexis & Adam
2022 proved to be a bustling one for the Bateman family, as they embarked on a series of memorable events The year started on a high note, with a family trip to the beautiful island of Kauai. During their stay, they enjoyed the warm waters of the ocean, and had a blast chasing chickens. The family also had cause to celebrate, as Margot turned 7 and began second grade. She also took an interest in gymnastics, an activity that she now enjoys regularly. Clark, turned 4 and started pre-K. He has a love for building with Legos and has become quite the aficionado. In the middle of the year, the Batemans marked a milestone as Adam turned 40. To celebrate this special occasion, the parents attended a music festival at the Rose Bowl, an experience that will be cherished for years to come. The Alexis and Adam also celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary and 18 years together, a testament to their enduring love and commitment.
Adam celebrated his 7th year at Lam Research, a testament to his hard work and dedication. Alexis, on the other hand, has been working at Amazon Web Services for two years and continues to thrive in her role.
To end the year in style, the Batemans traveled to Singapore and Thailand for the holidays, where they spent quality time with the Hickman family. They enjoyed the delicious local cuisine, played in the pools and ocean, and created unforgettable memories. Margot, however, returned home with a collection of bug bites, a small price to pay for the fun she had.
As the new year rolls in, the Batemans are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. Margot recently turned 8 and celebrated with her second-grade friends at Niles Park. In April, it will be Alexis' turn to turn 40, and the family has planned a trip to Vegas to celebrate this special occasion. The Batemans look forward to making new memories and creating lasting bonds in the coming year.
